Kankles!

This Christmas I met my second nephew Tyler and my second niece Keilani who were both born after I'd already moved out here to Sydney.

It was so wonderful to meet them both and they're adorable!

Ever heard of kankles? It's when the calf is so chubby that it blends with the ankle - here's my nephew's "kankle" :)

A Few Hours Turns into the Whole Day in L.A!

Motto for the Day: It all worked out for the best in the end.

On Sat. Dec. 19, 2009 I flew from Sydney to LAX Airport in L.A. and the original plan was that during my 4-hour lay-over I was going to meet up with Uncle Eugene and my best friend Ana (we've been friends since 5th grade) and her husband Scott for lunch.

Thanks to a huge snow storm on the East Coast my flight was cancelled three times so in the end I was fortunate to have the whole day with them!

We spent the day in L.A. Japantown (yummy sushi and ume-shu-on-the-rocks) and then onto an authentic Mexican restaurant to feed my Mexican food fix (while there are a lot of great Asian restaurants in Australia, there are very few good Mexican restaurants and I had a craving for steak fajita and a great salt-rimmed strawberry margarita).

It was great to catch up with Uncle Eugene (who looks great, really fit from walking every day) and Ana and Scott!

At 1 a.m. on Sunday morning my flight finally departed not for JFK Airport, but for Dallas-Forth Worth Airport where at 6 a.m. I departed for La Guardia Airport in New York. It was not the most direct flight, but my other options were a). Fly direct from LAX to JFK on Tuesday, Dec. 22 or b). Fly to Chicago, then to DC and then to JFK (as much as I would have loved to stop in Chicago to see my best friend since 3rd grade Michelle, being well familiar with Chicago O'Hare's poor on-time-departure record, this would have taken days).
